NFL Betting News – Latest Coach of The Year Odds
The NFL Coach of the Year Award is given out each year after the completion of the league’s regular season during the NFL Honors awards ceremony. The coach who is selected by voters for the award is the one who has done the best job coaching their team during the season given the talent available to them.
Usually, the head coach that wins this award is from a team that greatly overachieved based on the general expectations that the NFL media had for that team going into the year. Last year’s winner of the award was Mike Vrabel of the Tennessee Titans. Vrabel coached a Titans team that had an incredible amount of injuries to a 12-5 record and the AFC’s #1 seed.
It is important to emphasize to bettors that much like the NFL MVP award this award is only based on regular season performance. Playoff success doesn’t count at all.
So, who are the leading candidates to take home this prestigious honor for the 2022 NFL season? Check out all the top names in the betting odds and our pick for the award down below.

NFL Coach of The Year Contenders
Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni @ -105
The Philadelphia Eagles head coach is the hot favorite in the betting for this award and it’s easy to see why. Sirianni has coached this Eagles team to an undefeated 6-0 record through the first seven weeks of the NFL season.
The New York native is in his second year as the coach of the Eagles. Sirianni, who is one of the younger coaches in the NFL at 41, was a surprise hire back in the 2021 offseason with bigger names, such as Josh McDaniels and Eric Bieniemy, in the running for the job at the time.
The Eagles Head Coach served as the offensive coordinator for the Colts from 2018-2020 under Frank Reich and has been a big part of Jalen Hurts rise to one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league. When Sirianni got the Eagles job he noted his desire for the offense to be ‘multiple’. That is the key word with this offense, ‘multiple’ and fun, this offense sure is a lot of fun to watch on Sundays.
The Eagles were a fringe playoff team (the NFC’s #7 seed) last season, and most NFL observers expected a similar result this year. Sirianni’s squad have absolutely shattered those expectations with Philadelphia now looking likely to claim the conference #1 seed and also the strong favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl at this point.
Should Nick Sirianni be the favourite for this award? Absolutely yes. Is there value in betting him at these odds? I would say no. Look, there’s a lot of football to be played this season so I would be looking for odds in the 2/1 range before I put my money on Sirianni winning this award.

Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll @ +300
The 2nd favorite in the Coach of the Year betting is New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll at odds of +300. The first-year coach has led this Giants team to a 6-2 record through their first eight games of the season. If you told me, or anyone but the biggest of Giants fans for that matter, that this team would be 6-2 at this point in the season they would have laughed in your face.
The talent on this roster is just not great. Going into this year this team looked like they would struggle to win six games all season never mind within their first seven games played. In fact, the over/under for New York was set at 7.5 before the season kicked off.
The head coach that usually ends up winning this award typically pulls of something like this where they bring an unfancied team to way outperform their expectations. If the Giants can get to 11 wins this season then I think Daboll will have every chance of winning this award.
The Giants have four tough games left the rest of the season. Those are the two games against the Eagles, one game against the Cowboys and the other being away to Minnesota. The other five games look very winnable so at these odds I think Daboll is good value.
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell @ +950
O’Connell is another first year head coach who has completely reinvigorated the franchise he has taken over. Under Mike Zimmer the Vikings were a good pro football team, but they lacked some sort of energy that it’s hard to put your finger on. The last couple years under Zimmer it just felt like something was missing.
As a football fan I was beginning to feel apathetic about the Minnesota Vikings. The franchise was in no man’s land. Good enough to compete for the playoffs but were no real threat when they got there. O’Connell, who comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree, has made this team fun. And why shouldn’t they be fun with one of the best young receivers in the league in Justin Jefferson.
Ok, so I just waxed lyrical about Minnesota and how they seem to be a completely different organisation this season. Now I’m going to be critical. Is this a 6-1 team? Yes, I know what the record says but is this team THAT good? I don’t think so. The Vikings right now feel like a team that is overachieving a little bit and I think we might see them come back to the pack over the next month.
With that being said, this team has a three game lead over the Packers for the NFC North and they have played one less game too. They are almost certain to make the playoffs and in a weak NFC they might even end up with the #2 seed so +950 on O’Connell sure does look like it could be worth a flyer. O’Connell hasn’t had the media buzz get behind him yet but that will come as long as the wins keep piling up.
Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh @ +1200
Robert Saleh is now in his second year as Jets head coach and things finally seem to be coming together for the former 49ers defensive coordinator. Saleh is highly respected in league circles so you always kind of figured that he would eventually get this team to start performing at a decent level.
In keeping with the theme of young head coaches having success in the league, Saleh is 43 years of age and it feels like his players really connect with him. As an outsider it looks like these Jets players respect him and play hard for Saleh.
The Jets weren’t expected to do much this season. Their over/under win total prior to the season start was only 5.5. They currently sit at a 5-3 record which is good for second in the AFC East only behind the mighty Bills. The success he has had with this roster has been incredible, but I doubt the Jets can maintain these results.
Most recently, New York lost to the Patriots in a game where Zach Wilson threw three interceptions and looked completely out of sorts. At this point, there are more questions than answers around the Jets’ young QB.
If Saleh wants to earn Coach of the Year honors then he will need to coach this team to at least 10 wins to have any shot. 11 wins would really put him in the running. I don’t think he gets there with this Jets roster as it is currently constructed so I wouldn’t touch these odds of +1200.
Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll @ +1200
Who saw this coming? Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks are flying high atop the NFC West with a 5-3 record through eight weeks of the NFL season. Honestly, it’s another one of those where nobody would have believed you if you said this Seattle team would be where they are right now at this point in the season.
What a job Carroll has done. After the organisation decided to stick with Carroll and move on from Russell Wilson in the offseason this looked like it was destined to be a down year for the Seahawks. The style of football that the longtime coach has allowed his team to play must make everything feel that much sweeter too. Geno Smith looks like a rich man’s Russell Wilson out on the field for Seattle.
After years of listening to Seahawks fans beg him to ‘Let Russ cook!’ Carroll must feel vindicated by Wilson’s play in Denver and how well his team is playing led by an aggressive downfield passing attack. Maybe this is why the 71-year old head coach didn’t want Russ cooking all along?
I love the odds of +1200 here too. This is a team that is not only a surprise package in terms of their record but they also play fun football. Them being fun to watch will make voters more likely to side with Carroll for the Coach of the Year award if they feel it’s a toss-up between him and another coach.
This team came into the year with an over/under set at 5.5. Given the current state of the NFC West I give this team a realistic shot at winning the division. 11 wins for these Seahawks looks easily attainable too given their remaining schedule. Good luck making a case against the coach who has defied all expectations this season with a roster that looked downright terrible coming into the year.
The Pick – Pete Carroll +1200
